Daniel Giuffre, public artist in Perth.

Daniel is the artist and director behind StudioDG, designing and delivering permanent public artworks across Perth and Western Australia: sculptures, facades, gateways and integrated works commissioned by councils, developers, schools and architects.

The practice

StudioDG works at the seam of three disciplines: the patience of architecture, the freedom of art, and the rigour of computational design. Every commission moves through the studio under one set of hands, from concept and parametric model through structural coordination, fabrication drawings and installation. One artist, one point of accountability.

How commissions happen

Most of the studio's work arrives through WA's Percent for Art program, developer commissions and council procurement. Daniel is a registered artist experienced with coordinators, EOIs and competitive concept stages, and briefs are welcome at any stage, including before there is one.

Working with design teams

Artworks land best when they are planned early. Daniel joins architects, landscape architects and project managers inside their own model environments, coordinates against structure and services, and hands the builder a package they can price like any other trade. On civic and school projects, community consultation shapes the concept before a single panel is cut.

Background and credentials

More than a decade in Perth's public art sector, first on major commissions alongside artists Rick Vermey, Jon Tarry and Simon Gilby, and in recent years leading large-scale works in the studio's own name. Daniel has taught at Curtin University and lectures on computational design for the Australian Institute of Architects and Engineers Australia.

The commissioning process, from percent-for-art obligations to delivery, is laid out on the services page, and the full portfolio of built work lives in selected works.
